There is a way marked path to the famous UFO site from the Rendlesham Forest Centre car park.
Don't forget to bring your bicycle to explore the Suffolk Coastal Cycle Route and surrounding forests, countryside, rivers and coast. Cycle and footpath maps are sold in the shop.
The renowned
Sutton Hoo Anglo-Saxon Burial Site (National Trust) is a short distance (Approx. 6 miles) away using tracks through the forest.
You will be staying in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the Suffolk Heritage Coast. Felixstowe is the main seaside resort but for many, the charms of Aldeburgh with it's world renowned
Aldeburgh Music Festival or Southwold and it's Pier.
For those interested in history, a visit to Dunwich which was a major town before being swallowed up by the sea would be worthwhile. There are castles to visit at Framlingham and Orford. At nearby Orfordness you will find pagoda style buildings and a profusion of broadcasting aerials which over the years led to many rumours as the public were not allowed on this small strip of land. To discover the reasons for the secrecy you can now visit by catching a ferry from Orford to this National Trust property.
For those with a desire for peace and quiet, there are plenty of spots on the coast or by the rivers Deben, Ore and Alde to get away from the crowds. You can take a boat trip along the River Ore, around Havergate Island to view the birds and plants in this protected area. There are also boat trips along the rivers Deben and Orwell and small ferries to take you across both these rivers and the nearby Butley Creek.
Other places of interest nearby include
Woodbridge (with its famous Tide Mill), Shingle Street, Butley Creek, Bawdsey (and a foot passenger ferry to Felixstowe Ferry which has two good pubs), Ramsholt, Waldringfield and
Snape Maltings.
As you would expect there are many traditional pubs and restaurants in the area providing a wide variety of food - including oysters, crab and lobsters!
Whatever you would like to do we will try to point you in the right direction.
